In 2002, a significant soil sodicity project was commenced - Investigating Sodicity and Treatment Options in the Barossa Valley Viticulture Area in SA.
Different soil layers at 18 sites on 12 properties in the Barossa Valley were sampled in November 2005. A further 780 samples were collected for analysis. A second sampling measured the soil chemistry change as a result of winter rainfall but prior to the irrigation season. Comparison of soils after irrigation and following rainfall (due to better quality water) was a key part of the project.
A presentation on the project was given to the (then) Lower South East Soil Conservation Board and grape growers at a forum in Padthway in October 2005.
Materials have subsequently been produced in conjunction with the Adelaide and Mt Lofty Ranges NRM Board. These materials will be posted here as soon as they become available.
